Warm weather ways [Jul. 6th, 2008|03:03 pm]

Pride weekend's warm weather continued into Monday. Even in the early morning hours, the gym was exceptionally warm. Fewer people than usual were working out, perhaps sleeping off their Pride hangovers. With the added heat and fewer people around to complain, I took off my shirt for part of my workout, which definitely felt good.

Not long after, I enjoyed the warm weather by going from my post-workout shower to my office without once putting on a shirt. I had tried this last year but was stopped by a security guard in my office building, who told me that being shirtless was violating the dress code. (!)

This time I made it up the elevator (other passengers were nonplussed, as they should be), into my office suite, and past the new temp receptionist (who didn't seem disappointed to see a shirtless man on his first day of work), bare chested all the while.

Unfortunately, my boss was in early that day. So rather than walk past his office and have him see me partially undressed while he was conducting an interview, I ducked into the office kitchen and pulled on a shirt.

Naturally, I walked home shirtless after work, snapping this photo in a reflective window.

Considering that I'm still completely covered from the waist down (knees and calves excepted), I don't really get why some people oppose public shirtlessness. But on warm days, I am out to enjoy the weather — and to raise consciousness — one commute at a time.

EDIT: SHIT, I forgot to add the reason why this guy is so down on James. And, now I can't find a link to the image. It was a shooped conversation between this Jackal guy and someone else in which the Jackal guy referenced his love for eating shit. http://brontosaurus.org/shiteater.jpg L-O-L in rapid succession!

And then you have this very sad generation who actually believe that their LJ friends list actually equate to actual friends in real life. When I see someone who has a profile that has over 1000 friends, all I can think is how sad it must be to have so few friends in REAL LIFE that you'd just keep friending people online in hopes of scoring _REAL_ friends.

A previous post that is now locked:

the stupidity of the 20-somethings

I've been holding off on making a post about the stupidity of 20-somethings online, but I've seen enough. I just can't hold it in any longer.

NOTE: This post is not directed at any one individual but rather a collection of incredibly stupid 20-somethings online.

1- First off, there's a new breed of 20-something out there. These kids grew up with the internet. I like to call them the "ipod generation". (You can quote me as the creator that phrase - I use it all the time).

Anyhow - these 20-somethings seem to think that by posting every single second of their day online to their blogs via their cell phone cameras that they have achieved some level of internet celebrity. Well guess what - NO ONE IS LOOKING and NO ONE CARES. Serious - there are leagues of these kids out there now and they seriously think they have reached some form of self created celebrity. It's sad I know - and there are so many of them now.

2- Next up, and this one almost caused me to swallow my gum, I saw a video the other day of these stupid 20-something filming his cell phone call with someone (yes- I'm not making this up) and rather than actually laughing with the person on the phone he said "L-O-L" "L-O-L" "L-O-L" in rapid succession.

I don't even know where to begin on that one. We've raised a generation of kids who are so used to typing "LOL" and text'ing "LOL" back and forth to each other that now when it's actually time to laugh, THEY SAID "L-O-L" instead.

That's so sad and pathetic at the same time. Perhaps they think that makes them somehow cool. If so, I can honestly say - the 20-somethings of today are anything but cool.

3- And now to complete stupidity of the 20-somethings today. I feel like we need to educate these kids. Perhaps they need to pass a test before they can be released online without parental supervision. For example, the other day I actually saw this idiotic 20-something make an argument that he wasn't legally responsible for CONTENT HE POSTED ONTO HIS OWN WEBSITE, because he only posted a LINK to it on LJ.

That might pass for LJ's Terms of Service rules (because they are not gonna care about things posted outside of the domain which they control), but that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the legal court system. If you PUBLISH CONTENT online, you are responsible for the content via publication laws and can be held libel as with any other form of media.

Period. There's no debating this one. Doesn't matter if you post a link to it or not. The second you publish it online and make it publicly available you are legally responsible for the content.

I just can't believe how stupid these 20-somethings are. It's like they don't live in reality.

Well reality is about to come knocking up on their doorstep. Trust me.

The video he was referencing in which James says "L-O-L" in rapid succession:

And, completely separate, but, just as bitchy:
It seems to me that if your going to be a complete cunt on the internet, it would probably be best if you weren't trying to hide an old username (ssskinner) from 4chan.

glitterglass is being an idiot )
I mean, I understand why she would want to hide that name. When you google it, the first hit is http://ssskinner.com/. And, from there it's very easy to get her full name. But, you'd think she'd learn not to be such a bitch.

While I'm at it, in case you've been living under a rock, animal_dreams is back.

Independance Day [Jul. 4th, 2008|12:25 pm]

Happy 4th, people. I'm not all that patriotic, we all know, but I celebrate Independance from tyrannical governments. :D And I like fireworks.

There's not much goin on for me this weekend, tho. :( I'm so broke. I made exactly enough to pay rent, cellphone bill, buy milk, and get dinner last night. past that, I have no funds. I'm gonna gather up some dvds, see if I can get some money out of them. Otherwise it's cereal all weekend lol.

But I do hope, at least, to watch the fireworks tonight. That's my goal.

30 Days [Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:00 pm]

zakmckracken
If you haven't seen it, 30 Days is a show in which someone is selected to live with someone of opposing beliefs or in a situation that's uncomfortable to them. For example, a rich person living on minimum wage for 30 days or a Christian living with a Muslim for 30 days.. that sort of idea. It's an interesting show, and is generally well-balanced in terms of being able to show both sides of the situation.

Someone online asked why they don't have episodes where poor people are forced to live with rich people for 30 days or a gay man is forced to live with straight Christians for 30 days.. and the answer that one person gave made a lot of sense. Because poor people already know they need money, and gay people live in a straight, Christian world, so most of us fully comprehend Christianity and are surrounded by heterosexuality.

The show is about giving voice to minorities so they can share their experiences.. possibly make their lives less scary to those who don't understand them.. as well as examining current issues that are affecting society, and individuals with differing views learning to appreciate one another.

Sadly, a recent episode about same sex parenting fell flat. continued )
